personality. at first glance, valerius' blank expression would lead you to believe that he's judgmental and not approachable. however, the moment that you see him smile, it's clear in his eyes that he's happy to see you and get to know who you are. he seems elegant, graceful, so put together. his flirting sometimes is bold, yet sometimes is so subtle, you can't even tell that it occurred. charismatic and well-spoken, valerius is great at making new friends.but those who really know him know that he can be extremely timid or unsure of himself. they know of his nervousness, his hesitation to trust and the inability to understand his own identity at times. he can be impulsive, but sometimes he's calculated. sometimes you know his next move without hesitation, and sometimes you can't predict him. but even though he has his issues, a few things remain certain: he is nurturing, caring, and loves hard and fast. he is an excellent companion to have at your side and will not only protect you at all costs if you're dear to him, but try to care for you and make sure you thrive.

valerius' beginnings are not typical for a viera.arjm and petra wanted a new life in eorzea, tired of vieran traditions and a bloodline that burned everything in its wake. the pair left the forest with their year-old kit in tow, who was born vsera lesrekta. they did not make it. arjm died protecting them from a beast, and petra carried the child to the edge of civilization. she was determined to keep her baby safe. and she succeeded, passing vsera off to a sweet lady claiming to own an orphanage in eorzea at a port in kugane. the hingan city was her resting place.meanwhile, house rousseau, in ishgard, was in need of an heir and the head did not seem able to produce one. once she divorced her husband and adopted her new child, a vieran kit, it was love at first sight. not everyone felt the same way. she'd make sure that their opinions never mattered.one day, outside of the city, this child (who had been re-named odette rousseau) met a duskwight boy around the same age. the lad told her all about the stars, plants, chocobos--and odette was absolutely enthralled. from there on, they would become the best of friends. the boy, antoinaut, would teach odette to love the world around her. and in turn, odette would grow to love him with her entire heart.after the surprising birth of her little brother, odette made an effort to stay on top of her studies while being the best older sibling she could be and becoming a third caretaker to the child.as she grew older, discovered that she was not odette, and decided he would be known as valerius from here on. his family reacted accordingly, ensuring he could get into a body he was more comfortable with. once he was old enough, he set out to ul'dah's alchemist's guild to do what was necessary to have the form he yearned for. valerius proceeded to work as an adventurer throughout eorzea.recently, he's amicably removed himself from his role as heir of house rousseau. his brother will take up the mantle. let it be known this was his own decision--his family's naysayers had no impact. freedom was always the goal.

his late biological mother had a secret--the women in her bloodline managed to carry an alarming amount of astral fire aether that only grew as they got older, making them capable of commanding and manipulating great power over fire. valerius inherited this power, considering his body was afab upon its development. those who are sensitive to aether could sense the clear lean in aspect and the sheer abundance of this power. he seems to be extremely in control of it, to the point it seems downright exhausting.

his roommate, years-long love that he can never admit it to. valerius would do anything for this man, and happily enjoys their simple life together. the rhythm of their daily life keeps him happy and keeps him going even through the toughest and most confusing of times.

emilia forstner.
they both are forces of nature but in opposite ways. valerius feels very protective of emilia and would easily go to blows to keep her safe. valerius sees her as very sweet, but knows that her kindness is not a weakness. he thinks she's deranged, however, for having any interest in cassius.

svya.
the man frustrates valerius to no end, but he's intrigued and wants to know more. part of him could even be interested. and that infuriates him more than the man's smug pride.

rockefeller sirhan.
rocky and val are the perfect whirlwind of flames, each balancing the other. though valerius refuses to commit himself to anyone at present, his feelings for rocky are as intense as his aether. the miqote is someone he treasures greatly, despite their with-benefits relationship. (They are a married couple with children in several verses.)

cassius matalon.
their relationship is complicated. though reconciliation could be on the horizon, cassius has a lot to work on, and so does valerius. they both destroyed each other and had to pick up the pieces--but they met at the wrong time. unforeseen circumstances may put them in each other's arms again.

rais huasos.
val found himself falling for them, entranced by their beauty, and curious about them. after a few days together in ishgard, they vanished from his life. under the stars, however, they made their amends. the sun and the galaxy may now exist in perfect harmony--only seeing one another when fate allows. or whenever valerius decides to visit her work. that works, too.
